Roma Effie Day Burress, age 94 of Jewell Ridge, formerly of Pea Patch Virginia was surrounded by her loved ones as she drew her last breath on Earth and her first breath in Heaven on Monday, July 4, 2016.
Effie was born in Pea Patch, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Newton Blair and Nancy Evaline Davis Day. She was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and friend. Effie was a classy lady with a strong personality, she was full of a lot of spice and sassiness that allowed her to be outspoken and opinionated. Effie was the royal monarch of her family, and they treated her like the queen she was. She even had a Tiara that she would wear proudly. When her husband died, she went to work as a fulltime caregiver and in her spare time she would put out a garden, harvest and can her bounty. She loved to travel and was most proud of her trip to the Holy Land. Whenever she could, she would pull out her photo album and persistently tell you about the wonders she had seen there. One craft she loved to do was quilting, and as she quilted, she stitched and wove her love into each blanket and asked God to cover her loved one in His care. She was of the Church of Christ faith and had been a lifetime resident of Buchanan County in the Pea Patch and Jewell Ridge area.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Ira Burress; daughter, Janice Keene; son-in-law, Troy Ray Keene; daughter-in-law, Brenda Adams Burress; grandchild, William, great-grandchild, Brandie; sisters, Louisa Sparks, Elizabeth Rife, Willie Altizer, Mae Coldron, Pauline Fletcher, Belle Day, Ruth Day; brothers, Burley Day, Grat Day, Harold Childress and Hubard Childress.
