Arthur Lee DeBarge 72, of Lake Charles, LA died Friday, March 26, 2010 in a local hospital. Mr. DeBarge was born November 16, 1937 in Lake Charles, LA. He proudly served his country in the US Navy with the Seabees. Mr. DeBarge worked in the offshore drilling industry as a crew boat captain for over 20 years. Continuing with his love for the sea, Captain Lee worked as a commercial fisherman for most of his life. In honor of his favorite charity, and our family's patron saint, he named his first shrimp boat St. Jude. He was also an expert shrimp net maker, but most importantly, entertained everyone with his quick wit and dry sense of humor. He also made many friends while working in industrial construction. As an avid LSU fan and longtime New Orleans Saints fan, he experienced one of the happiest days of his life when his long suffering Saints finally won the Super Bowl. He is survived by his sons, Sidney DeBarge and wife Elizabeth of Lake Charles, Timothy DeBarge of Cameron, LA, Gerald DeBarge and wife Aimee of Lake Charles, Rusty DeBarge and wife Kim of Baton Rouge, and Donald DeBarge and wife Debbie of Lake Charles; daughter Mindy DeBarge of Lake Charles; sisters, Theda Burnett of Houston, TX, Kathy Washington of Mauriceville, TX, and Brenda DeBarge of Sulphur, LA; brothers, Thomas DeBarge of Grand Lake, LA, Oran DeBarge of Cameron, LA and Brian DeBarge of Cameron, LA; loving mother of his children, Midge DeBarge of Lake Charles; fifteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 29, 2010 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Dan Landry will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service. His brothers and grandsons, along with nephew Richard Verret and close family friend Dennis Cummings will serve as pallbearers.
