Alphonse F. DeCicco, 95, of River Rd., Willington, died Monday, (May 31, 2004) at his home. He was the widower of the late Mary (Patria) DeCicco who died August 1, 1996. Alphonse was born in Valle Freda, Italy, on June 11, 1908, son of the late John and Angelina (Crispino) DeCicco. He retired as owner and operator of Ribbonzene in Willington. Alphonse was honored with the ''Willington Schools Citizenship Award'' in 2000. Al graduated from Hall Memorial School in South Willington in 1923. The Citizenship award recognized his nearly seven decades of active duty for the Town of Willington. His service to the town includes: Building committees from 1949-1951; Board of Education from 1951-1963, four years as chairman; Board of Selectman from 1963-1975, ten years as first selectman, and approximately one-third of all ordinances of the Town of Willington were created during his tenure; President of the Willington Senior Citizens from 1987-1990; and Chairman of the Housing Authority from 1991-1996. In addition, Al served the State of Connecticut: State Board of Pesticide Control, 1971 under Gov. John Dempsey, and CT Safety Commission, 1977-1983 under Gov. Ella Grasso. He loved his family, playing golf, bowling, and playing pool. At 95, he still chuckled over the small monthly payments he receives from his life insurance company saying, ''They sure didn't make any money on ME!''. Al was also a member of St. Jude Parish, Honorary Life member of the Italian Benefit Society of Stafford Springs, Honorary Life member of the Rockville Lodge of Elks No. 1359, member of the Willington Senior Center, and Life member of Skungamaug River Golf Club. Alphonse is survived by three daughters, Raenette M. DeCicco of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Nadeen M. DeCicco of Culebra, Puerto Rico, and Sally A. DeCicco of Calais, VT; two sisters, Madeline Mackovich and Clara Dimmock, both of Willington; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 4, 10 a.m. at St. Jude Church, Old Farms Rd., Willlington. Burial will be in Willington Hill Cemetery, Willington
