Dr. Joseph P. Bartelli (DeCicco), 68, of Baldwinsville, passed away Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Tampa, Florida. Joe attended Syracuse University where he received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. He later received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Hawaii. Joe was a High School Teacher at Bishop Grimes and Henninger and an Adjunct Professor at Onondaga Community College. Mr. Bartelli was loved by the thousands of students that took his math classes for over 45 years. An avid gardener and interior designer, he had a flair for tropical settings. Joe was famous for his tropical garden that he transferred to his basement each fall. Known for his excellent cooking, Joe specialized in Italian cuisine. He was a former prize-winning body builder. A lifelong communicant of Assumption Church, he was a member of the choir for over 40 years and served as a Cantor and Eucharistic Minister. He was predeceased by his parents, Fay and Louis DeCicco. Survivors include his husband, Wayne Jarvis; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Jarvis; father-in-law, Joseph Jarvis; sister-in-law, Judy (Bob) Hayes; best friend and best man, John Martin; nieces, Amanda and Whitney and nephews, Aaron and Jakob. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 16th, 9:45 a.m. at FARONE & SON Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 15th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 1500 Park Street, Syracuse. Contributions may be made to Assumption Church.
