Alice Marie Deeds Cordes Broberg passed away Nov 18, 2013 at her home. She was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in 2002 . She battled the chronic disease diligently until spreading her wings to eternal life.

Alice was the seventh child of Edward W. and Marie E. A. Schmidt Deeds Edghill. She was born November 19, 1947 at Loup City. Survivors include her immediate family: husband, Bruce, of Doniphan; son Andy (Katie) Cordes, Bennington; stepsons Bryan (Kiki) Broberg, West Des Moines, Iowa and Brad (Kristin) Broberg, Waukee, Iowa; grandchildren Laila and Ethan Cordes; Ellie and Benjamin Broberg, and Cade, Will and Reid Broberg. Also siblings Irma (Milton) Schroeder, Shelton; Jerry (Joyce) Deeds, Bennington and Roy (Linda) Deeds, North Platte and sister-in-law Pat Deeds, Lincoln, brother-in-law Delbert (Merci) Broberg, San Jose, CA, sister-in-law Deanna Nelson, Grand Island, NE fourteen nephews and two nieces and their families. Many cousins and extended family survive.

She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Shelton.

She graduated from Shelton High School 1966. During high school she detasseled, waitressed at the Shelton Cafe and volunteered at Shelton United Methodist Church office. She attended Kearney State College and 1997 received an Associate of Arts degree from Central Community College, Grand Island. In 1967 - 1972 she worked at Dr. R. D. Johnson in Kearney; 1972 - 1984; Shelton Clipper and Publishing; 1984-1989 Gangwish Seed Farms, Gibbon; 1990-2000 Insur, Inc, Grand Island and Grand Island Public Library 2000-2007.

She and Robert (George) Cordes were married November 4, 1967 at the Shelton Sacred Heart Church. They became a family of three with son Andrew. The couple made their home in Shelton. Bob tragically died in a job related accident in 1985.

August 18, 1989 Alice and Bruce Broberg were united in marriage at the Grand Island United Methodist Church. Alice gained two bonus sons Bryan and Brad Broberg. They made their home in Grand Island and moved to rural Doniphan in 2000.

Alice lived a Christian life, believed in positive thinking and laughter. She had a cookbook or cooking magazine within reach, enjoyed reading non-fiction and fiction books, completing Sudoku puzzles, being in the kitchen trying new recipes and baking bread using her mother's Al-Bran recipe. She preferred coffee to tea, Diet Coke, autumn, fresh flowers, morning, bracelets, red nail polish, hats, butter to mayo and would never say no to a glass of wine. She smiled the biggest when around the children and grandchildren. She had a fondness for driving fast. She collected speeding tickets throughout Nebraska and Iowa. The first time she drove in Sweden the speed sign read 120 and she pushed on the gas pedal. She was quickly disappointed when converting 120 km/h to 75 mph.
DONIPHAN — Alice Marie Deeds Cordes Broberg, 65, of Doniphan died Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at her home.
Celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Lonnie Logan officiating. Inurnment will be later.
Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
