Maude was born in Kansas in 1883. She married George Clifford Barlow on 11/21/1909. Clifford had immigrated to the US from England in 1904. During the censuses from 1910 to 1940 she and Clifford lived in Warrenton, Clatsop County, on the Oregon coast. In 1910 & 1920 Clifford was a merchant with his own grocery business. In 1920 Maude's mother, Nancy Deeds, was living with them. In 1930 & 1940 Clifford was the auditor for the city of Warrenton. At one point Clifford was the director of the Oregon Chamber of Commerce and President of the Oregon Retail Merchant's Association. He was an active Mason. After a 3 year illness he died in May 1944.

Prior to entering the state hospital Maude was living at the Masonic Home in Forest Grove, Oregon (25 miles west of Portland). The Masonic and Eastern Star Home for the State of Oregon which was built "for the aged and infirm, and the poor and distressed worthy Master Masons, their widows and orphans . . ." The property is now the McMenamins Grand Lodge, a hotel and event center.

On 12/28/1953 Maude was admitted to the Oregon State Hospital, a residential facility in Salem, Oregon for the treatment of people with mental illness. After being a patient at the institution for 8 1/2 years she died there of heart problems. She was also diagnosed with cerebral arteriosclerosis with psychotic reaction.
