His 130 film credits include "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly," "Once Upon a Time in the West," "The Name of the Rose," and "Life is Beautiful" by Roberto Benigni in 1997. He worked with directors such as Sergio Leone, Federico Fellini, Roman Polanski and Pier Paolo Pasolini. Cause of death was a heart attack. He made his first film "Finalmente Si," in 1943. He shot Italy's first colour movie, "Toto a Colori," in 1952, and won 4 David di Donatello Awards. He was awarded the American Society of Cinematography Lifetime International Achievement Award in February 2005.
