~OBITUARY OF MRS. BETTY V. BARNES

Mrs. Betty V. BARNES, age 70 years, of Jefferson City, Missouri, died Thursday, February 12, 2004.

Mrs. BARNES was born May 15, 1933, in Ralls County, Missouri, the daughter of Fred B. and Dorothy A. Couch DENMARK, both deceased.

She was married on May 23, 1951, at Hannibal, Missouri, to M. Eugene LONG, who preceded her in death. She married Allen F. BARNES on March 12, 1970, at Fulton, Missouri, and he preceded her in death on December 17, 2000.

Mrs. BARNES graduated from Community R-6 High School, Laddonia, Missouri, and attended Hannibal LaGrange College in Hannibal, Missouri.

Mrs. BARNES was employed as a sales clerk at the Miners' Find Gift Shop in Apache Junction, Arizona.

Betty and Allen were foster parents for nearly forty children.

Survivors include two daughters: Gail CLEMENTS and her husband Jeff of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Genette SAPPINGTON and her husband John of Jefferson City, Missouri; two step-daughters: Flossie MASHEK and her husband Jerry of Denver, Colorado and Imagene BRIGGS of Troy, Missouri; one sister: Martha BERGERSON and her husband Hogan of Apache Junction, Arizona; one brother: Howard Stanley DENMARK and his wife Velma of High Point, North Carolina; five grandchildren: Christopher T. HENRY, Laura M. CROW, Travis SAPPINGTON, Daniel SAPPINGTON, and Rachel SAPPINGTON; one great-grandson: Jack HENRY; and seven step-grandchildren and fourteen step-great-grandchildren.

A private family memorial service will be conducted.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Community Christian Church Music Dept. of Jefferson City, Missouri.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
