Sarah was the daughter of Seaborn Trader Featherstone and Sarah "Sally" N. Allen. She married Memory Prince Dermid on 15 Nov 1859 in Henderson County. Shortly after their marriage the Civil War broke out and Memory enlisted in the Confederate Army as a private in Company D, North Carolina 6th Cavalry Regiment.

The couple had 9 children:

*Harriet Louise Dermid
*Katherine Amanda Dermid
*Prince Edward Dermid
*John Oscar Dermid
*Sallie Mae Dermid
*Junious Wells Dermid
*Lillian A Dermid
