Born in Montemigiorre Belsito, Sicily, a picturesque mountain town near Palermo, Calogero came to America at age 35. He did not read or write english and he left his wife and family in Sicily to come over to America and make a bettter life for them. His passage on the ship "Madonna" was paid by his Uncle Cruiziano Digati of Buffalo, New York. He worked as a laborer and finally settled with his family in New York City when he was able to save enough money to bring them over to live with him. He was naturalized and became an American on November 17,1919. He served as a Private in the US Army.
He is remembered here by his cousin.
(Calogero's father and my Great-great Grandfather are brothers.)
