Edgar Bright Dixey Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 3, 2014 next to his wife of 64 years, Josephine Jamison Dixey. Mr. Dixey was born in New Orleans August 13, 1925. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Bright Dixey Sr. and Rita Bentley Dixey, his sisters Diane Dixey Hailey and Dorothy Ann Dixey, and one daughter, DeLane Dixey Taylor. He is survived by his children, Edgar Bright (Rusty) Dixey III, Diane Dixey, Deborah Dixey, Deirdre Dixey Cootes (Randy), Minge Dixey (Tami), Devin Dixey, and Robert Dixey. He was “PawPaw” to numerous grandchildren, as well as two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Dixey served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and graduated from Auburn University in Chemical Engineering. It was here that he met his wife, Josephine, and the two began on a path building a family whose bonds are as strong today as ever. After being born and raised in Uptown New Orleans, he moved his family to the Westbank. Here he was a founding member and past President of the Aurora Country Club, where he was an avid tennis player. During the Carnival season, he was a member of the Krewe of Dorians and the Krewe of Olympians. He spent most of his career as the Operations Manager of the Amstar Sugar Refinery in Chalmette, LA. Mr. Dixey was a loving husband and devoted father, and he was very proud to call New Orleans his home.

Services will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans on Monday, December 8, 2014 with visitation starting at 10:30am and a service following at noon. A private interment will follow in the historical section of Metairie Cemetery.
