Bridget died at her daughter, Ann's, home at 351 Center Ave. According to an obituary, she and her husband lived at Lexington, Missouri "at the time the [Civil] war broke out. In the family there were three sons and a daughter, who was married to a man named McGarty. When President Lincoln called for troops two of Mrs. Dolan's sons joined the Union army, but the other one and her son-in-law, McGarty, cast their fortunes with the Confederate troops.

"The four men marched away and none of them ever returned. It is supposed that all were killed in battle, and the fact that they had fought against each other was ever afterward a source of great sorrow to Mrs. Dolan."

At least one son, Martin, appears to have returned to Chicago within four years of her death.
