Alleene Downs Drew, 89, passed away peacefully Friday, January 20, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was born in Georgia, the daughter of George W. Downs, Sr. and Ida Mae Broach Downs. Her family moved to Tampa in the early 1930s. She attended Roosevelt Elementary School and Wilson Junior High School, and she was a member of the Plant High School Class of 1940. She was a 77 year member of Bayshore Baptist Church and a 50 year member of the Tampa Woman's Club.
Alleene was preceded in death by her parents, her brother George W. Downs, Jr., and her sister Annie Mae Downs Armstrong. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, George D. Drew, daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Keith Pafford, daughter, Judy West, grandchildren, Catherine Pafford, Keith Pafford, Billy West, Drew West, and Mallory West, and many extended family members.
Alleene was devoted to her family and was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Grand Court Tampa for the kindness shown during the years she was there. The devoted care and attention she received are sincerely appreciated.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. Macdill Avenue. A family visitation will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 6-8:00 p.m. and a celebration of her life will be on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. both at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Tampa.
