Bernard was known as Bennie to his family and friends. He was born in the City of Buffalo, New York to Joseph and Mary Dubel. Bennie grew up with his siblings: Harry, Mary, Joe, Anthony, Helen, Rose, Florence and Edward in the City of Buffalo, New York.

Bennie was a Veteran of World War II, Tech 4, United States Army.

Bennie and his wife, Lillian, owned and operated Dubel's Restaurant and Lounge at 1237 Clinton Street and later at 749 Smith Street in the City of Buffalo, New York. Dubel's was a well-known eatery for delicious home-made food and hospitality. Everyone was warmly welcomed. It was a popular spot for political figures and sports people.

Bennie, Harry and Joe are buried together.
