MARY LEACH COLEN
born MARY GILLIS DUER on Christmas Eve, 1942 in Baltimore, MD.
She was graduated from The Bryn Mawr School and Sweet Briar College, received her Masters in Education from Univ. of Pennsylvania and pursued doctoral work at Columbia Univ.
In 1964 she was married to Walter Leach.
She taught in the public schools of Harlem, NY and South West Phila. Later she taught at The Agnes Irwin School in Rosemont.
Upon being widowed in 1981, she focused her career in other areas. She was married to Joseph E. Colen, Jr. in 1986.
Upon her retirement she was Senior Vice President of L F Driscoll Construction Co.
She held many volunteer and charitable positions, including serving as the President of the Junior League of Phila.
She enjoyed time on the water and at a farm on Maryland's Eastern Shore where two of her favorite things were flowers and sunsets.
She is survived by her husband; daughters Jennifer Anderson (Hugh), Ambler Selway (Jamie); stepson Joseph "Dusty" Colen (Mazie); step-daughter Jennifer Colen (Brian);
and 8 grandchildren.
Mary's Service is on Friday April 24, 2015 at 11 A.M. from
St. Christoher Episcopal Church,
226 Righters Mill Rd., Gladwyne, PA 19035
with The Rev. Dr. Hillary Raining.
Int. will follow in St. Christopher's Episcopal Churchyard.
