They never married and no one saved their letters or their pictures. Maria died in 1876 soon after the deaths of her aunts, Cornelia and Margaret. Helena lived ten years longer. In the last six years of her life, she managed her brother's household and cared for his children. She was in her late sixties when she died in 1886.
