Gerald Keith "Jerry" DUNCAN Sr.

DUNCAN, Gerald Keith, Sr. "Jerry" 73, passed away suddenly at home in Tracy, CA on August 10, 2005. Jerry was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on January 29, 1932 to Keith and Marie DUNCAN. Shortly thereafter he and his parents moved to San Leandro where he attended grammar school and high school up until his sophomore year. In 1947 they moved to Sonoma, CA. where he then graduated from Sonoma Valley High School. After graduation, Jerry went to Santa Rosa Junior College where he played football. The team he played on still holds numerous SRJC records and was inducted into the SRJC Football Hall of Fame in February of 1999 for an undefeated season and un-scored upon season in the early fifties. Jerry also holds personal records for that season. After SRJC Jerry went to Cal Poly on a football scholarship where he met Coach John MADDEN with whom he is still friends. Jerry was the first Sonoman who was drafted into the NFL where he played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1956 through 1958. After playing for the 49ers Jerry had a short stint with the Chicago Bears and ended his pro football career with the Vancouver Lions. Continuing his love for football Jerry went on to coach Union City High School in the 1970's where he led the team to two League Championships. He also coached Logan High School to their 1st winning season in the 70's. Jerry also volunteered with the Special Olympics and the Altimira Reading Program. He was a 20 year resident of Tracy, and a 5 year resident of Sonoma. Jerry had two surviving brothers Earl and Glen along with his brother Warren who predeceased him. He was the loving father of Denise DUNCAN, Yvonne MEEHAN, Jerry DUNCAN Jr. and Michon MATTEO. He was adored by his grandchildren Shannon MEEHAN, Katherine DUNCAN, Christina DUNCAN, Jonathan DUNCAN, Michael MATTEO, Ryan MATTEO and Daniele MATTEO. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11:00 AM on Wednesday August 11, 2005 at DUGGAN's Mission Chapel. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jerry's honor can be made to the North America Wolf Association, 23214 Tree Bright Street, Spring, TX 77373.
