Margaret "Maggie" Curran Appel Duncan, of Corona Del Mar, California died March 18, 2012 at home with her daughters Elizabeth and Anne by her side. Maggie was born August 7, 1929 to LeRoy and Marguerite Curran in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was the youngest of four children, three of whom died shortly before she was born. She spent her summers with her cousins, who were like siblings to her, on Mackinac Island, Michigan. It was at St. Augustine High School in Kalamazoo, Michigan that she discovered her love for acting. She was a founding member of The Barn Theatre in Augusta, Michigan. Upon graduating from high school, she continued her love for acting at UCLA where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts. While there, she starred in many major productions at Royce Hall. January 29, 1955, Maggie married Michael Appel at St. Paul the Apostle in Westwood, California. They had three children together. She began a career in Real Estate which was perfect for her outgoing personality and where she excelled. In 1979, she moved the family to Newport Beach, California. There she met the love of her life and future husband. They shared 28 years together before his passing. She had a larger-than-life personality and a great sense of humor. She was an avid tennis player She continued to act in theater, independent films and commercials. She drew many friends into her life and cherished them, maintaining friendships from grade school, high school and college. She lived for her children and grandchildren. She died at home with her daughters by her side. She is survived by her children, Michael (and Kim) Appel of Studio City, California, Elizabeth (and Michael) Spain of Corona Del Mar, California and Anne (and Dan) Carlock of Corona Del Mar, California; and her five grandchildren, Emily and Caroline Spain and Ryan, Brandon and Tanner Appel. Services are as follows: Friday, March 23, 2012, 6 PM Rosary and reception at Pacific View Mortuary, Corona Del Mar, CA; Saturday, March 24, 2012, 1:30 PM Funeral and Celebration at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Balboa Peninsula, CA; Monday, March 26, 2012, 11:30 AM Burial at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, CA.
