Edward Laudon Dunlap, 97, of The Woodlands, TX, died Wednesay, April 6, 2011 at The Woodlands Healthcare Center where he resided. Mr. Dunlap was born in Weakley County TN near Greenfield, TN, on March 9, 1914, the son of Nell Snider Dunlap and William Edward Dunlap.

He received his early education in rural TN where he grew up on a farm. The family farm produced and sold a variety of fruits and vegetables with their primary crop being sorghum. Mr. Dunlap graduated Greenfield High School where he excelled in sports and was an especially fine pitcher for the Greenfield Yellow Jackets baseball team. He was a lifelong sports enthusiast particularly favoring The Atlanta Braves baseball and University of Memphis basketball teams.

He married Kathreen Crawley on December 31, 1936, in South Fulton, TN. Shortly afterward they moved to Chicago, IL where Mr. Dunlap worked for Railway Express. In 1947 he and his family moved to Memphis, TN, where he worked as a salesman at Fortner Furniture Company until his retirement. At 89 years of age he and his wife moved to TX to live next door to their eldest daughter. Mr. Dunlap became quite fond of TX and spent many pleasurable hours sitting in his rocker on the back porch watching and feeding the birds and petting his much loved dogs.

Mr. Dunlap prided himself on being well groomed and well dressed. He was known for his ready laugh, cheerful demeanor, kindness and for whistling. He was devoted to his family, friends and neighbors and was a quietly religious man. He cherished his many years of service as an elder and adult Sunday School teacher at Macon Road Presbyterian Church in Memphis. In addition to following sports, he enjoyed collecting coins, studying the Civil War and Native American culture, reading the bible, walking, gardening, and telling tales of his youth. He loved to make people laugh.

In addition to his wife of 74 years, Kathreen, who resides in The Woodlands, TX, he is survived by his daughter Nelda D. Head and her husband Michael B. Head of Winchester, VA; a son Edward M.
