Irene M. Dusick, age 92, of Rhinelander, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital.

Irene was born on January 31, 1917 in Chippewa County to John and Nellie (Brown) Dusick. She attended high school in Boyd, Wisconsin and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Eau Claire College. She taught 1st through 8th grades in a one room rural school in Chippewa County for 5 years, 2nd grade at Central School in Wakefield, Michigan for 2 years, and 2nd grade at Central School in Rhinelander for 35 years. In 1978, she was selected as one of the Teachers of the Year in Rhinelander. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association at the local, state, and national levels and the Alpha Eta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society.

In earlier years, Irene traveled extensively. Upon her retirement from teaching, she remained in Rhinelander and traveled to the Augusta Nursing Home for 14 years to visit her mother who lived to be 100 years old. She enjoyed baking cookies for her mother and the other residents and staff at the nursing home. Irene was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish and attended St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Irene is survived by her cousins, Charles (Evelyn) Elstrom and Nila (Corky) Sossaman as well as many friends and co-workers. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services for Irene will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home, 715-365-4343. A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Boyd, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
