Iona Dustin Bailey peacefully passed away Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at the age of 86 at Valley Vista Care Center.

On a hot summer day, Aug. 2, 1925, Iona was born at the family home in Victor, Teton County, Idaho, the first daughter of Monroe Dustin Sr. and Eva Emmaline Kunz Dustin. She received her education in Victor and Driggs, graduating from Teton High School in 1943. She then attended Albion State Normal College and received her teaching certificate in 1945.

While attending school in Albion, she met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" N. Bailey. Bob served in the United States Army during World War II and, following his release, they were wed on Dec. 15, 1945, in Burley. Eventually, they bought the Bailey family ranch from Bob's parents and made Albion their home. After nearly 52 years of marriage, Bob passed away Nov. 7, 1997.

Iona taught school in Shelley from 1945 to 1946. Following her marriage, she completed the school year in Shelley and then moved to Albion to start her family with Bob. When her children began school, she returned to teaching. She taught in Albion, Burley and Declo during her career. Iona received a bachelor of arts degree from Idaho State University in 1962. She retired after teaching for 21 years.

Iona was an active member of the LDS Church and served in the Primary, was a Young Women's president, ward historian, ward music director, ward choir director, ward organist/pianist and a faithful visiting teacher. Civically, she served many years as secretary of the Albion Senior Citizen Center. She enjoyed genealogy, sewing, cooking and yard work. Iona was an avid canner and had a knack for using everything to its fullest potential. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her family the most. The memories she held dearest were those of time spent with her family, whether it be gathering firewood for the winter, cooking holiday feasts or simply visiting on the breezeway of her home.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynda (Ben) Anderson and Arlene (Randy) Meyer, all of Albion; five grandchildren, Troy (Kelli) Anderson, Cory (Gina) Anderson, Clay (Susie) Anderson, Tate (Tifanee) Anderson and Kim (Joe) Barrow; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dent Dustin of Whittier, Calif.; and a sister, Bonnie Putnam of Layton, Utah. In addition to her husband, Bob, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Duane Robert Bailey (who died Sept. 5, 1971); a grandson, Justin Fries; two great-granddaughters, Tegan Barrow and Macee Jo Anderson; two brothers, Merritt Drake and Monroe Dustin Jr.; and a sister, Eunice Winkfield.

A special thank you goes to the dedicated staff of Valley Vista Care Center for the extraordinary thoughtfulness, care and love they shared with Iona during her last years of life.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at the Albion LDS Church with Bishop Randy Brackenbury officiating. Burial will follow in the Albion City Cemetery.
