Lloyd was the son of Mary (Stewart) and Henry Dyer of Wellington, New Zealand. And the brother of William Henry Dyer and Betty May (Dyer) Divehall.
Lloyd was a Sergeant in the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

Biographical Notes from the Auckland Museum database:
Took off at about 2258 hours from Long Kesh, County Down, Northern Ireland, where he was stationed with 5 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit, RAF, on board a Hampden TB. I (P1352) for local night flying. Moments after take off the plane flew into rising ground 3 1/4 miles west of the airfield. At the time of his death, Dyer had completed 359 flying hours, 39 of these on board a Hampden.
