Lela Irene (Eads) Watson-Atherton, 104, of Parsons, died peacefully at 6:40 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Elm Haven East Nursing Home in Parsons.

She was born March 20, 1910, west of Oswego, Kansas, to Joseph Wilson and Susan Hester (Strickland) Eads. As a young girl, she grew up near Oswego where she attended school.

She was of the Baptist faith.

In earlier years, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Through the years, she enjoyed working on the farm, canning, cooking, baking pies and cakes, picking up pecans, and attending the county fair where she often entered her baked and canned goods.

Lela especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She and Orville Vance were married [1928]. To that union two children were born, Loyd, Jr. and Darlene Vance. They later divorced.

She and David Watson were married April 21, 1934 in Joplin, Missouri. They lived and farmed in Sherman City, Kansas, their entire marriage. He preceded her in death November 30, 1980.

On July 23, 1981, she and John Atherton were married in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death August 6, 1985.

Survivors include two daughters, Laura Van Houden of Independence, KS, and Linda K. Gallagher of rural Columbus, KS; seven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by ten siblings; two children, Loyd "Junior" Vance and Evelyn Darlene Bower; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild [Kevin J. Gallagher].

Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, Parsons, KS

The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Sherman City Cemetery. Friends may call at their convenience from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Sherman City Cemetery Association and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, 67357.
