MARY ALINE "BABE" EARHART AUSTIN, our beloved mother and grandmother, died peacefully in her home in Houston TX surrounded by her family on November 9, 2009.

Mary was a native Houstonian born in 1919 - the only child of Charles Walter Earhart and Aline Mary Whealan.

She was a graduate of Reagan High School, a proud Reagan Red Coat and an alumna of Rice University. Mary and her husband Thomas Hebert had 4 children: Tom, Charles & wife Carol Jean, Pat & wife Joyce, and Anne. She treasured her 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Mary owned and operated Hebert Insurance Agency in the Heights. Thereafter, she worked for many additional years in the insurance industry. She married John Austin and retired to Naples TX. Her retirement allowed her time to pursue her intense interest in genealogy. When John died, Mary returned to Houston and became active in numerous organizations including Colonial Dames, DAR, En Amie, Magna Charta, New England Women, and The Delphians. Mary played a key role in the construction of the Heights WW II Memorial. This project was close to her heart as she was a very patriotic lady. Because of her love of people she became involved in many church and social groups. She was a loyal and dedicated volunteer during her many years of service in the Methodist Hospital Auxiliary.

There will be a rosary Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 6pm followed by visitation 7-9pm at the Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home. On Friday, November 13, 2009, at 9am there will be a graveside service at Hollywood Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 1pm in the sanctuary of Foundry United Methodist Church, 8350 Jones Road to celebrate the life of our beloved Mary. A reception will follow thereafter. Suggestions for memorials made in Mary's name are available at the funeral home website www.cyfairfunerals.com
