Geraldine L. "Jerry" Bishop, age 83, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at her residence on Tuesday October 28, 2008 at 11:10 pm. Jerry was born on July 15, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harry and Edna Dell Earhart. Jerry was raised and educated in Monmouth attending Monmouth schools. She began work in 1943 employed at Illinois Bankers Life Insurance company and worked there for ten years. She was married to Frank L. Bishop on June 15, 1953 in Clovis, New Mexico. he preceded her on January 6, 1999. After being married, Jerry and Gene traveled and raised two sons before returning to Kirkwood in 1971. She then began work with the Warren County Red Cross Chapter as Secretary for the next twenty-two years. In 1984 they moved to Monmouth. She retired from the Red Cross in 1993. Jerry is a member of First United Methodist Church in Monmouth, where she also worked on the church newsletter, " The Caller " a number of years. Jerry was an avid Cub fan.
Surviving Jerry are her son Barry (Sally) Bishop of Monmouth and Steve (Sherry) Bishop of Oneida, Illinois and Step Son Glenn (Teri) Welborn of Ft. Madison, Iowa. Eight grandchildren Mandy (Chris) Hughes of Galesburg, Illinois; Craig (Christine) Bishop of Aledo, Illinois; Martha ( D J ) Sage of Monmouth; Manuel Salazar, Jr. of Monmouth; Roman (Heather) Salazar of Monmouth; Michelle (Matt) Kirchner of Kahoka, Missouri; Brandon Welborn and Levi Welborn , both of Ft. Madison. Eight Great Grandchildren also survive.
Jerry is preceded in her death by her parents and husband.
Services: A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in the Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth. Jerry's family will be present to receive friends at Turnbull Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to Noon on Saturday morning. A memorial fund is being established for either the Disabled Veterans of America or OSF St. Mary Medical Center Hospice.
