Mary Beaty, wife of Darius Beaty, died at the family residence in this city at 4:30 o'clock Saturday evening. Had she lived just eight days longer, she would have reached the age of 80.

Mrs. Beaty was born at Coshocton Furnace, near Frederick, Maryland, on January 26, 1833.

She was the daughter of Daniel and Mary Erhart. Her mother died when she was but seven days old. Her father, with his children Edward, Priscilia, Martha, Horatio and Mary. came to Indiana in 1840, and settled on a farm about a mile west of Bethel Baptist church, near Walesboro, Indiana. She was the last living member of her family.

In 1852, July 20th, she was married to Darius Beaty, and they made their home on the Erhart farm, where they resided, until ten years ago when they moved to this city. To Mr. and Mrs. Beaty were born four sons, Daniel F., Joshua, Charles X., and William. Three of them survive her. She is also survived by her husband, Darius Beaty, who is eighty-four years of age and by four grand children, and four great grand children.

Mrs. Beaty became a Christian when she was quite young, and affiliated with the Bethel Baptist church at the time of its organization, and has been one of its faithful workers ever since. She was always interested in all matters pertaining to religious work and each day read from her Bible and church paper

Perpetuating a family custom she subscribed to a Baptist paper known then as the "Standard," later as the "Witness" and at the present as the "JournaI and Messenger," keeping each copy from the first number until now, embracing a period of sixty-five years.

Aunt Mary, as she was known by almost every one in the county as well as in this city, had hosts of friends, and her home has always been open to all, relatives, friends, and strangers.

No one ever entered her home but that before leaving, they were urged to partake of something she might be able to serve. She was a devoted wife and mother.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon. The procession left the hose in this city at 1 o'clock and proceeded to the Bethel church near Walesboro, where the services were heId at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Heitmeyer, of this city. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.
