Mary Wilton Earle Cleveland died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at the Episcopal Home at Still Hopes in West Columbia, S.C., where she was a resident.

Formerly of Greenville and Easley, Mrs. Cleveland was the widow of James Harvey Cleveland Jr., whom she married on Nov. 4, 1942. To her husband, children and grandchldren, she was affectionately known as "Sug."

Mrs. Cleveland was born in Charleston on Sept. 1, 1919, to the late Colonel Joseph Haynsworth Earle and Mrs. Earle (Virginia Conway Wheeler Earle). She attended Furman University and graduated from the University of Virginia in 1939. Mrs. Cleveland taught in the public schools of Greenville and Easley, and was a member of the Junior League of Greenville, the Greenville Committee of the Colonial Dames in America in South Carolina, the Easley Garden Club, the Better Homes Club of Easley and several bridge clubs. The Clevelands were founders and members of Saint Michael's Episcopal Church, Easley.
