Jean was the first child of Romie and "Tip" Edwards Sr.

She taught school in Pendleton, Ore., and Long Beach, Calif. After marriage, she taught in Boulder and Longmont, Colo.

Jean married B.F. "Chip" Backlund in Kearney, Neb., on July 3, 1947.

Jean is survived by her husband, Chip; her three children, John Backlund, Camy (Craig) McLaren, and Steve (Tomi) Backlund; grandchildren, Matt (Chau) Backlund, Tera Backlund and Eric Backlund; great-grandchildren, Conner and Bryce; and her brother, Don Edwards.
