Mrs. Butts departed this life at 2:30 a.m. Sept. 12, 1914, at her home in Hays, Kansas, being 59 years, 9 months and 17 days old. She has been a sufferer for more than twenty years but was patient through it all.

Mrs. Butts was converted to God when about fifteen years of age. She was received for baptism by the Baptist Church in Hays about nine years ago, but was never baptized on account of her health.

Mrs. Butts was the mother of five children, four daughters and one son. Two daughters and one son are deceased, Louis, Stella Ann and Jennie V.

Thers (sp) are left to mourn the departure of Mrs. Butts a husband, two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Francis Shutts and Miss Zeta Butts, one brother, J. B. Ellett, a stepfather, Dave Rathbone, and a half sister, Mrs. Henry O'Shant, besides a number of friends who knew her well. Mrs. Butts was not afraid to die. She trusted in Jesus for her support as she passed through the dark waters. Mrs. Butts was a faithful wife, a loving mother, a good neighbor and a devoted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed are the dead which died in the Lord from henceforth; Yes, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."

The funeral services were held at the house at 2:00 p.m. Sunday conducted by Rev. C. T. McKee, Pastor of the Baptist Church. A large number of friend and relatives followed the remains to the Hays Cemetery where the interment was made.
