Mrs. Aikman was an active farm wife. She was the first woman to deliver a truck load of grain to the Jones-Switch Elevator. She enjoyed a life long membership in the Coles County Farm Bureau and served many years as precinct Democratic committeewoman. Mrs. Daily assumed her husband Paul's term of office as Lafayette Township Supervisor after his death. She proudly served as the first woman County Board Chairman and Lafayette Township Supervisor, an office she held for twenty years. She was a seventy-five year member of the First Assembly of God Church. Ruth enjoyed flower gardening all of her life and she had many visitors to her home on Odd Fellows Road to admire her exotic flowers.
She won the SWCD Outstanding Woman Award for Coles County in 1967 for her work in soil conservation. Her interests and priorities were always her Church, family and farm.
