Marianne Ellison Carwile Bartram was born in Duncan, SC. She was the daughter of the late Roy James and Belle Bernecia Stribling Ellison.

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her energy, creativity, and generous heart have brightened many lives. Her vision and gracious determination made the Thomas W. Bartram Trail a reality.

A graduate of Converse College majoring in mathematics, Mrs. Bartram taught in schools at Columbia, Pendleton, and Lancaster, retiring from teaching at Greenville Technical College. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, the Alumnae Board of Converse College, the Elizabeth Heath Book and Study Club, Book Barters Club, Azalea Garden Club, and Home and Garden Club.

Survivors include her daughter, her son, two grandchildren, a stepson, a stepdaughter-in-la, three step-grandchildren, four brothers and a sister.

In addition to her parents and an infant son, she was predeceased by her first husband, Addison Brooks Carwile, Jr.; her second husband, Thomas Walsh Bartram, Jr.; and stepson, Roger Bartram.

Burial was in Upper Long Cane Cemetery, Abbeville, SC.
