The Death of a Pioneer German Lady of Dayton
Mrs. Mary Alberts, of Nearly Sixty Years a Resident of this City Goes to Her Reward.
Mrs. Mary Alberts, for nearly 60 years a resident of Dayton, and numbered among the pioneer German citizens, passed away at an early hour, Sunday morning at her home, 123 East Cass Street, death being due to the infirmities of old age.
The deceased was twice a widow, her first husband being John Eis and her second husband Henry Alberts. She was born in Germany and came to the United States with her parents in 1845. Two years later she came to Dayton, where she continuously resided up til the time of her death. Seven children were born to the first union, three of whom are dead.
The living children are: Mrs. Sophia Byers of this city, Gustave Eis of Centralia, ILL , Mrs Emma Jacobs of Boston, Mass., and George Eis of Detroit, Mich. She leaves one daughter by her second husband Mrs Jeanette Geis. The deceased is also survived by one brother, Charles Engel, and by two sisters, Mrs Sophia Elsman, and Mrs Elizabeth Moehlman. There are 11 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 from the resident and 2 o'clock from St. Johns German Lutheran Church., of which the deceased was a devoted member. The interment will be made in Woodland Cemetery.
