Ms. Auten, 77, of Charlotte, died June 4, 2005 at her daughter, Amy's home in Charlotte. she was a native of Clover, SC and was the daughter of the late Chester Lee and Lucy Kitchen Ensley. The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at The Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home in Belmont, NC. Dr. Richard Kremer will officiate. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia, NC. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Carothers Funeral in Belmont prior to the service.

Dot graduated as Valedictorian from Cramerton High School. She was appointed to the FBI in 1944, but declined and chose to marry James Auten, Jr. Mr. & Mrs. Auten went into business with J.L. Pressman to establish Goodwill Exterminating and Insulating Company Inc. in Gastonia. Throughout their happy marriage of 54 years her greatest pride and joy was in raising her two beloved children, Reggie and Amy.

Upon her husband's death in 1999 Mrs. Auten managed Auten Investments LLP until the time of her death.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was sacred to her. Mrs. Auten was a member of Westmoreland Baptist Church and active in church functions.

Survivors include son, James Reginald Auten of Charlotte and fiance, Lori Ann Chadwick of Matthews; daughter, Amy Branscome and husband, Butch of Charlotte; grandchildren, Courtney Branscome and Lee Branscome; sister, Macie Michael and husband, Harvey Lee of Wingate, NC; 4 nephews and 2 great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Auten, Jr.

Memorials may be made to North Carolina Cued Speech Association, c/o Isabelle Payonk, 129 White Oak Dr. Wilmington, NC 28409. This helps a camp for parents and hearing-impaired children. In honor of Courtney Branscome.
