Mrs. Nelle Barbre Dies In Illinois
EDINBURG - Mrs. Nelle M. Barbre, 86, former German language teacher at Columbus high school, died Saturday at the Greenbrier Manor nursing home in Champaign, Ill., where she had been a patient the past three years. She was a former resident of Bartholomew county.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mutz funeral home in Edinburg by the Rev. Frank Rustemeyer. Burial will be at Rest Haven cemetery. Persons may call from 7 to 9 o'clock tonight at the funeral home.
Born in Columbus March 7, 1882, Mrs. Barbre was the daughter of Peter and Ella Clark Ensley. She was married to William Thomas Barbre June 29, 1912, and he died May 16, 1963. She received her bachelor of arts degree from DePauw and her master's degree in German from Indiana university. She taught at Columbus prior to her marriage. Mrs. Barbre lived in Pittsfield, Mass., from 1925 to 1935 and in Bartholomew county from 1935 to 1959, at which time she moved to Champaign.
Mrs. Barbre was a member of the Edinburg Christian church. Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, Golden Years club and Young Men's Christian association's Silver club.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Evans of Champaign; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
