Milton Poston Evans Reported Missing In Philippines
Milton Poston Evans of Salisbury, corporal of the Fourth Marines, reported missing. A grandson of Mr. R S Poston of Statesville, the young man was born here, his mother being Mrs. Alice Poston Evans. Both parents are dead. Corporal Evans had been in the marines a number of years. The family last heard from him in July. He was in China then.
A dispatch from Washington of May 10, listed Corporal Evans as one of two Carolinians receiving letters of commendation for heroism in the battle of the Philippines. The dispatch said; "The Navy department announced today that 30 officers and 155 enlisted men of the Fourth Marines and three officers and five enlisted men of the medical personnel attached to the famous regiment have been awarded decorations and commendations for heroism in the battle of the Philippines."
Message stating Corporal Evans "is missing" was received by his sister Sunday night.
