Detectives investigating the death of a 41-year-old man want to talk to anyone who saw two men assault him.The assault happened September 7 last year.The apparently motiveless assault saw Mr Evans, who lived on Convent Close, in Hartshill, punched and kicked by the men until a passer-by intervened.He was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire and treated for cuts and bruises to his face and head.He discharged himself shortlythat evening, but collapsed in Princes Road and was re-admitted to hospital.His condition deteriorated in the following months and he died on April 24. A post-mortem examination revealed he died of pneumonia with complications from injuries sustained to the head.Mr Evans, who was unemployed, lived what has been described as a "transient lifestyle".The former builder had been married and had three children with his ex-wife.He had another child during a later relationship.But over the past 10 years he had become estranged from his family.
