They were married on Wednesday, October 10, 1900, at 3 o’clock in the evening, at the home of her mother in Weimer, Colorado County, Texas. In a newspaper announcement of their wedding, the bride was described as being “well and favorably known” in the city of Weimer. Also, that she was “a pretty and popular young lady of friendly disposition and winning ways.” It described the bridgegroom as “well known here, having resided in our city in former years.” Also, that he is a “upright and straight forward Christian gentleman.” The newlyweds made their home in England, Lonoke, Arkansas.
In January, 1903, Amanda became gravely ill. She died on January 21, 1903, in Arkansas at the young age of 31 years. The following was posted in her hometown newspaper: “The sympathy of this entire community goes out to Mr. Allen in his misfortune. Mrs. Allen was a lovely lady, cheerful, compassionable wife and helpmeet, popular wherever known, and her death just in the bloom of young womanhood is deeply and sincerely regretted.” (Weimer Mercury, Page 8, January 24, 1903).
