Dorothy Carstens, 82, Lake Benton, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 unexpectedly at her home.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 30 at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake Benton.
Interment will be in St. John's Immanuel Cemetery in Verdi Township.

Dorothy Jean Carstens was born to William and Anna (Anderson) Faulds on Oct. 23, 1926 at her parents' home in Arco. She was baptized Nov. 26, 1937 by Rev. W.A. Bloom in Arco. She was confirmed June 8, 1941 at Lincoln Lutheran Church in Ivanhoe. She attended school in Arco before moving with her family to a farm east of Ivanhoe, where she continued her education. After her graduation from Ivanhoe High school, she did domestic work before becoming employed as a receptionist for Dr. Friedell. She was later employed by Andrzejek Grocery Store in Ivanhoe as a clerk.

She married John Carstens on March 8, 1959 in Lincoln Lutheran Church, northeast of Ivanhoe. The couple farmed southwest of Ivanhoe and in 1962, they moved to their present farm in Drammen Township, Lincoln County. In 2004, Dorothy suffered health problems and was hospitalized for five months in the Hendricks Hospital, as well as Sioux Valley (Sanford) Hospital, Sioux Falls.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake Benton where she was active for many years in the Dorcas Society. She was also a member in a local extension club.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John Carstens, Lake Benton; one daughter, Anna (Mrs. Gerry) Rudebusch, Lake Benton; one son, Carl Carstens, Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Bob Faulds and one sister, Natalie Miller.
