A career educator and lifelong animal lover, Ms. Cartmill dedicated her working life to helping generations of students reach their full potential. Born in South Charleston, West Virginia, on March 4, 1939 to James P. and Margaret Ferrer, she received her college education at West Virginia University and Kansas State University, graduating from KSU with a degree in elementary education. She spent most of a more than 30-year career at Holy Innocents Episcopal School in Atlanta, starting as a librarian assistant and rising through administrative ranks to serve as registrar, development director, and director of admissions. She was the first point of contact for educating what would be hundreds of the community's most prominent men and women. She took personal interest in many and always liked to hear how they were doing. In retirement she found more time for her gardening hobby, and to support charities, particularly those rescuing and caring for stray animals. She is survived by five cats... as well as by sons James "Rusty", 47, and Ken, 44, and granddaughters Kaileigh and Linsey.
