Lillian May Burns

Lillian May Burns was born July 3, 1931 in Denver, Colo., to Lillian and Stanley Field. She was blessed with one older sister, Shirley Field.

Lillian was raised in Denver and graduated from East High School. In 1948, Lillian married John, "Gordon" Bennett. In 1955, their daughter, Holis Elizabeth Bennett, was born.


Two years later, the family moved to southern California and their son, James Gordon Bennett in 1960.

Lillian and her husband divorced in 1970. She married again on June 7, 1975, to Wilfred Joseph Burns. In 1988, they purchased property in Bodfish. At that time, Lillian was working at Torrance Memorial Hospital, but soon left to begin working as a respiratory therapist at Kern Valley Hospital, from which she retired in 1992.

Lillian was past president and historian of Lake Isabella-Bodfish Property Owners Association, a Kern County CSU volunteer, and played piano for the Highland Chapel Methodist Church as well as her church home, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Lake Isabella.

Lillian was known and loved by her family and many adoring friends. On Aug. 13, 2004, Lillian went home to be with the Lord. Services were held on Aug. 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Lake Isabella, with Rev. Jim Beilstein officiating. Interment followed at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights.

Lillian will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Services were entrusted to the care of Sierra Mortuary and Funeral Home of Lake Isabella.
