Funeral services for Ruth F. Barr, 70, of Mill Road in Norfolk, will be held on Monday, March 2, 2009 at 3 p.m. at the Fox-McLellan Funeral Home with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Notre Dame Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 1 p.m. until the service. Mrs. Barr passed away on Thursday February 26, 2009 at the Massena Memorial Hospital Emergency Room with her husband by her side.

Surviving is her husband Ralph; two sons, Tracy Barr and his wife Maria of Bristol, R.I., and Craig Barr and his wife Sue of Texas Creek, Colo.; a daughter, Peggy Sue Hicks and her husband Terry of Bentonville, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Shawn, Brian, Harley, Clayton, Levi and Brittany Barr, and John and Katie Hicks.

She was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Alfonse "Sandy" (Ursula) Ramanaski and a brother, John Fielding.

Mrs. Barr was born on November 17, 1938 in Ogdensburg, a daughter of the late Fred and Ursula (Herbert) Fielding. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy, and married Ralph Barr on April 12, 1958 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Ogdensburg with Msgr. Floyd Brown officiating.

She was employed at NY Telephone in Ogdensburg for several years and later became a traveling sales rep in Massena until her retirement. She also was employed at the Norfolk Elementary School as a math aide for a period, was elected assessor for the Town of Norfolk, and was a school tax collector for the Norwood-Norfolk area for several years.

She was an avid golf enthusiast and enjoyed traveling, gardening, knitting, crocheting and crafts of all kinds, and spending time with her family.

Memorial contributions can be made in her name to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
