Ruth F. "Kak" Carwile, 90, of Monmouth died at 9:50 A.M. Sunday, May 22, 2011 in the comfort of family at Legacy Estates, Monmouth.

She was born August 4, 1920, in Mendon, Illinois, the daughter of Gerald W. and Dorothy (Shields) Finlay. She was reared and educated in Mendon, Illinois and graduated from Monmouth College in 1942 with a degree in mathematics.

Kak and her husband Earl were married on June 13, 1942 in Petersburg, Virginia. They enjoyed 68 years together.

Kak was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, knitting and reading. Kak and Earl cared for more than thirty foster children in their home. She enjoyed making and eating sweets and in her later years, made sure she had room for dessert by always eating it first. She was a volunteer with the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and within the churches she attended.

She attended the First Baptist Church for over forty years. As a child she was a member of the Mendon Congregational Church in Mendon, Illinois; and for the last ten years the Vermont Street United Methodist Church in Quincy. She was also a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority and the Warren County Doll Club.

Surviving are her 5 daughters, Linda (Gary) Gilliland of Wisconsin Dells, WI, Polly (Jerry) Aten of Tucson, AZ, Ann (Dave) Holmer of Albuquerque, N.M, Amy Carwile of Galesburg, IL, and Marti Carwile of Monmouth; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Frasier of Quincy, Il; brother, Paul Finlay of Quincy, IL

Her parents, husband, one granddaughter, Kiley Standard, and one brother, Jerry Finlay, preceded her in death.

Cremation has been accorded with graveside committal services to be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, June 11, 2011 in Monmouth Cemetery. Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Green Lake Conference Center, W2511 State Hwy 23, Green Lake, WI 54941.
