Mamie "Ruth" Finnegan Bergin

Mamie "Ruth" Finnegan Bergin, 86, of Laurel, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012. A visitation will be held Friday, September 28th from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. with Rosary at 7:30 at Memory Chapel. Saturday morning, September 29th, a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Father Mike Thornton will officiate. Mrs. Bergin will be laid to rest at St. Michaels Cemetery in Paulding, MS.
Mrs. Bergin was born August 18, 1926 in Newton, Mississippi. She was a homemaker. She retired as a secretary at Trustmark Bank. Mrs. Bergin was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for over 60 years. A devoted Catholic, Mrs. Bergin lived her faith daily through a servants heart and acts of Christian charity. Specifically, she was involved with the parish and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Mrs. Bergin will be most remembered by her family as a remarkable woman who took pride in each of them and their accomplishments, always lovingly serving their needs first. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mrs. Bergin was happiest surrounded by and cooking for her large family. Mrs. Bergin was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Charles Bergin; parents Mike and Ida Finnegan, four brothers Dan, J.A., Lloyd, and Willis Finnegan; and her sister Margaret Coker. Mrs. Bergin was the proud mother of six children: five sons and one daughter. Sons include Chuck (Joanne) Bergin of Madison, MS; Al (Leasa) Bergin of Forrest, MS; Marty Bergin of Hattiesburg, MS; Burny Bergin of Laurel, MS; Bob (Dene) Bergin of Laurel, MS, and daughter Mary (Mark) Dye of Tupelo, MS. Mrs. Bergin is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers are Mrs. Bergin's six grandsons: Patrick Bergin, Joe Bergin, John Bergin, Christopher Dye, Michael Dye, and Patrick Dye. Memory Chapel of Laurel will handle arrangements.
