It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. After a courageous battle with cancer, Betty passed away in her home with her family by her side on June 18, 2014.
Born in Ecum Secum on May 4, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Jessie (Hape) Doucet.
Betty leaves behind her loving husband of 48 years, William; daughter Melissa, Dartmouth; son Billy (Cindy Bayers) and her two beloved grandchildren Maya and Nevan, all of Musquodoboit Harbour; mother-in-law Lucy Fitzgerald, Sydney; sisters Virginia Fleet, Ecum Secum, Doris (David) Frank, Bridgewater, Cathy Doucet (Richard Novak), Bedford, Susan (Dale) Faulkner, Grand Lake; brothers Paul (Norma Samuelsen), Enfield, Leo (Mary Ellen) Doucet, Halifax, John (Esther) Doucet, Enfield, Tony Doucet, Bedford as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her grandmother Annie Hape; father-in-law, Alphonsus Fitzgerald; brother-in-law, Archibald Fleet; nephews Michael Fleet and Donald Fleet; and nieces Sarah Doucet and Jessica Doucet.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Atlantic Funeral Homes. Visitation will be held at the Atlantic Funeral Home 771 Main St., Dartmouth on Thursday June 26, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday June 27, 2014 at 11 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Parish, 320 Flying Cloud Drive, Dartmouth, N.S. Followed by interment at Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.
As per Betty's request, immediate family flowers only.
In lieu of flowers, she requested donations in her memory be made to the QEII Foundation (Palliative Care).
We would like to thank Dr. Daniel Rayson, Dr. Robert Rutledge and Helen Searle for all they did for Betty over the years. Also, a thank you to Dr. Robert Horton & Devon Hennigar from Palliative Care and to Melanie, Amber & George from VON for assisting us in providing Betty with such wonderful care.
