Born in the parish of Hospital, Co Limerick, Ireland. From her sister's (Catherine Carroll Byrnes) obituary, it says their parents both died when the children were young and 2 of the sisters were raised by an uncle in Ireland. Ellen married James Fitzpatrick in Frankfort in 1853. I believe it was Helen Noonan Meade and Antoinette Noonan Roberts that told the story that she died from burns suffered when her husband opened the door one blustery Mar day in 1890 and Ellen, standing too close to the fire, had embers blown onto her skirts which caught fire. James, her husband, burned his hands trying to put the fire out but was unsuccessful in saving her. It states in his will that he is unable to sign his signature but only make his mark as both hands are severely burned.
