Myrtle Lydia Abbott, 95, a loving mother, grandmother, and and friend to all who knew her, died February 15, 2009. The youngest of 13 children, she was born to Lydia and John Forsythe October 10, 1913 in Dugdale, Minnesota.

Times were rough for her pioneer family as they struggled to survive harsh Minnesota winters. She especially loved high school where she participated in competitive girls' basketball.

In [1934], Myrtle married Wallace Abbott, who later became the school principal on the White Earth Indian Reservation. Tragedy struck when they lost their first baby, Joan Madonna, to pneumonia.

During the 1940s and 50s, they lived in Greenbush, Minnesota where they owned a hardware store and became active in the Luthern Church.

She was the best mother and grandmother anyone could ever ask for and we will all miss her very much.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, February 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the Life Care Center, 2490 International Circle.

Myrtle and Wallace married on January 5, 1934 in Polk County, Minnesota and had 4 daughters.
