ATHENS — Irene France Alden, 95, of Upper Arlington and formerly a resident of Athens, passed away Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at First Community Village Healthcare Center, Columbus. She was a graduate of Ohio University.

Irene was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Athens and Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Columbus. She was a member of First Families of Athens County and an avid bridge player.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, R. John Alden, in 1995; sisters, Lena Smith, Marjorie Bechtold and Eleanor Gibbs; and by her brothers, Wayne France and Newton France.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Priscilla Rood, and her husband, Arthur Winsor, of San Diego, Calif.; son, John L. Alden, of Upper Arlington; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many close friends.

Friends may call Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 1559 Roxbury Road, Columbus, with Fr. Romano Ciotola as celebrant.

Graveside service will be held Friday, at 3 p.m., at Amesville Cemetery.
