Alex Frank was born at a US Army-run displaced persons' camp in Ulm, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany on October 31, 1946, the son of Holocaust survivors Leon Frank and his wife Fannia.

He emigrated with his parents to the US in 1948, and they soon settled in Edmond, Oklahoma.

A national-champion debater in high school, Alex attended the University of Pittsburgh, from which he graduated in 1968.

Soon after moving to New York City in 1975 he became a manager at Bloomingdales department store, where he met his wife Suzanne.

In 1987 they relocated to Irvine, California where he helped build a successful apparel-manufacturing business. For the past five years he worked as a marketing and sales consultant.

Alex loved sports and was a fan of the English soccer club Arsenal F C, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He enjoyed music, especially blues, and was an avid reader, with a passionate interest in history and politics, which dated back to his college years.

He was 66 years old and a longtime resident of Irvine when he passed away on August 5, 2013 after a sudden illness.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years; two sons; and two brothers.

Burial is to be in Fairhaven Memorial Park.
