Lonnie Freeman
Lonnie Freeman, 77, of Boise passed away at home in peace, Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30 at Summers Funeral Home, 1205 W. Bannock Street, Boise, Idaho. Lonnie was born November 22, 1928, in Childress, Texas. At a young age he moved to Pomona, Calif. with his parents and seven brothers and sisters. Times were hard for him and the family. This however seemed to make him stronger and even more determined to make his place in the world. He went to work to help support the family at a young age. He had a strong work ethic and passed it along to inspire others to be all they could be, especially his children. Lonnie joined the Navy at age 17. He served during World War II and the Korean War aboard the USS Valley Forge. His family was everything to him. He raised his children Kendall Louis Freeman and Shelley Ann Appleby with love. He gave his family all he had. It gave him pleasure to provide a good life for his wife and children. They were his pride and joy. Lonnie was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over 50 years. The fact that his son, Kendall, and grandson, Robert, followed in his footsteps to become electricians gave him great joy. He was so proud of them and the three generations of electrical workers. He met and married his wife Alene Norris Freeman in 1950. They had 53 years together. Alene passed away in 2003. He was lost without her. They had shared their love, many hopes and dreams, life disappointments and struggles but were always there for each other. Lonnie raised two children, Kendall Louis and Shelley Ann, in Chino, Calif. He retired in 1982. Lonnie and Alene spent some time in Morro Bay, Calif. enjoying the ocean, then moved to Boise in 1984 for their retirement years. Lonnie loved to golf. He pursued everything he did with passion. He made many great friends through his golf. Lonnie made friends very easily. He could walk up to anyone, anytime and start a conversation. He loved to tell stories. He treated his friends and family well, lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Lonnie leaves behind many children, two he raised from birth and many others God sent his way to help and love. Like everything else in his life he embraced them and took care of them. They are Ken and Jodi Freeman, Kenny and Shelley Appleby, Cheri and Tom Holstein and Sherry Boyer. Lonnie leaves behind four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, they are Robert, Lisia, Britney, Samantha, Joshua, and Ryan. Lonnie loved many things in life, but none as deeply as his family. He was Dad to many, Grandpa to all his children's children and a special man to them all. He will be missed beyond words by all who knew and loved him. He is at peace now that he and Alene are together again to continue their 53 years together.
