Lorene Wynkoop was born June 17, 1932 in Joaquin, Texas to Benton and Bertie Lee Freeman. She passed away October 30, 2012 in Boise, Idaho of complications due to kidney failure.
During WWII, Lorene's family left their rural East Texas home and moved to Houston to work in defense plants. They settled in the community of Kinwood, north of Houston.
Lorene learned to play the piano and was soon playing for services at the local Baptist Church. She graduated from Aldine High School in 1950. That summer, an evangelistic party came to a neighboring church, and she was impressed by the musician of the team. They married on October 21, 1950. The next summer, the couple travelled to Twin Falls, Idaho to help out in a church.
Over the next 18 years, they lived and worked in Twin Falls, playing music in various churches. They also operated a music studio. Five children were born into the family. In 1969 they moved to Boise where they continued to work, teach music and play music in churches.
Lorene always maintained a lovely home and was a masterful gardener. Raising her children to love God was her greatest priority.
Lorene was preceded in death by infant son, Kenneth; mother, Bertie Lee White; and father, Benton Freeman.
She is survived by her faithful husband, Wayne; two brothers, Bobby Jean Freeman and Billy Glen Freeman; four children, David (Debbie Ann), Daniel (Debbie Kay), Dean (Barbara) and Deborah Lynn (David Johnson); six grandchildren: Christy, Rebecca, Nick (Breanna), Michael, Caitlyn (Jonathon Beals) and Tyler; three stepgrandsons; and one great-grandson who has been the light in her eyes these recent months.
Lorene's family expresses their great gratitude for the care she has received through Davita and her dear nurse Jennifer, Visiting Angel Linda, St. Al's Home Health and Hospice, and Capital Care Center.
The family will commemorate her life with a private burial at Dry Creek Cemetery, and a public memorial service to be held Monday, November 5 at 11:00 AM at New Hope Church of the Nazarene, 8585 Overland Road, Boise. She will be missed by family, friends, and church.
